RACHEL'S RUMINATIONS!

Sometimes you just have to write…

B is for Blogging

There are two blog challenges going on this month. Actually, there may be more, but these are the ones I’ve heard about.

The A to Z Challenge involves posting 26 times in April, which means every day except Sundays. Each post has to be about something that begins with that day’s letter. That’s why yesterday’s post was about April and Arlee Bird, the co-host of the A to Z Challenge, and why today’s is about blogging.

Random picture of a random thing I saw this morning. Lying on a table in the big entrance hall of the college where I work: a pair of women’s underpants. They were still there when I left in the afternoon.

The other challenge is called the Ultimate Blog Challenge. This one is even stricter in that I don’t even get Sundays off. On the other hand, I can blog about anything I want. For the last couple of months I’ve managed to post to this blog at least once a week and sometimes more. I’ve decided to take it up a step and joined not one, but both blog challenges. I figure this is a good month to try it, since I should have plenty to write about: my trip back to the US starts on the 7th, and I should have enough time to write something most days, at least once I get to Washington on the 12th. My students there will have all sorts of projects to work on, but I won’t, so I anticipate having much more free time than I normally get.

To me, the challenge isn’t so much the writing: if I can muster up both the time and the discipline – given my tendency to procrastinate – I should be able to post something every day.

The challenge is writing well. I don’t want to churn out nonsense. I don’t want to let typos through. And I do want people to enjoy reading what I write. I’ll do my best, but I’m not sure that’ll be good enough.

Do you think I can do it? And do you have any topics you’d particularly like me to address?

If you’d like, you can subscribe to my blog on the right side of this page. Even if you don’t think I can sustain the challenge for a whole month, subscribe so you can watch me fail! Or you can follow me on twitter, where I’ll tweet whenever I post a new blog entry.

Your writing is insightful, descriptive and witty so if anyone can rise to the challenge, you can!

Perhaps it would be worthwhile to give us your thoughts on “de zesjes cultuur” in the Netherlands, the Dutch and their caravans, guidance counseling for teens (or the lack thereof”, and dogs in restaurants…

What nice responses, all of you!

Tami, two challenges at the same time are no bigger than one challenge!

Karen, thanks for the ideas; I’ll definitely use them. Except the dogs in restaurants one, which I don’t really get…

And Jennifer, couldn’t you catch up by writing more than one on a couple of days?

    Thanks for reading!

    Regards,
    Rachel
